Buenos to all you Funny Bunnies and Secret Squirrels…

Well we are currently in an amazingly beautiful colonial city in southern Colombia called Popayan after a completely crappy ride from San Augustin an archaeological site next to a guerilla occupied area.

We are absolutely SHAGGED since they managed to squeeze us into a sardine can van with 20 other stinky locals on a road so bad that it took us 7 hours to go only 121kms!!! I’m sure I busted at least 2 vertebra and a haemorrhoid on the potholes… It’s times like these that backpacking really SUCKS!!!

Que Pasa Chicks, Chickadees and other furry animals…

Well we are currently the only foreigners in a place completely off the tourist map called Quimbaya in the Zona Cafetera (Coffee Growing Zone) in central Colombia and all we can say is that COLOMBIA ROCKS!!!

Before we came here, every traveller we met in 1998 and on-line told us Colombia was their most favourite place in South America which amazed us since the rest of South America is so fantastic… and now that we’ve been here for a couple of weeks, we’d have to agree too… Colombia is WAY COOL!!! Hola Muchachos y Muchachas

Well we’ve been in Colombia now for 4 days and HOLY CRAP is it dangerous!!!

The pavement is all crooked and they have streetposts that are knee height all over the place so I’ve twisted my ankle twice and whacked my knee several times… man… I don’t think I’ve been in more dangerous a place…

…OK… I’ll stop being a tos.ser now… Seriously, Colombia really isn’t too bad… so far… touch wood…

OK this is a diary log that I am writing whilst sitting in the boarding lounge in Quito, Ecuador awaiting a flight to Bogota, Colombia.

I am writing this because Colombia is the most dangerous place that we have been to and is scaring the living shit out of us, and I thought it would be cool to document our thought processes and planning so we can compare them to our thoughts later… especially if we have a fantastic time, or if we end up dead at the hands of FARC guerillas. Buenos dias movers, groovers and other prehistoric animals…

Well we have just arrived back in Quito, Ecuador after 8 days in the Galapagos Islands and if the people bonking in the room next door hurry up and come, then I’ll be able to concentrate and finish this travel log and tell you how much of a fantastic time we had.

…Holy Cow!!!!…..The Galapagos totally ROCKS!!! It is seriously one of the most amazing places that we have ever been too… well not quite as good as Antarctica, but close!!! Continue reading →

Ole Cariocas

Well, we are currently in Foz Do Iguazu in Southern Brazil after spending the last 3 days in Rio De Janeiro, and I must say that Rio completely FREAKED US OUT, DUDE…!!! …well not so much Rio itself but all the horrible expectations that come from reading too much scary stuff about a place before you arrive.

Before we left home, we spent a bit of time on internet chat rooms and also reading guide books about Rio and Brazil in general, and the basic idea we got was that the place was overrun with street kids overflowing from the Favelas (slum areas), and that these kids basically all hang out at Copacobana Beach and will steal everything from you… Continue reading →
